11890 Cuts Deal With UPC

Directory Enquiries Company Urges Public to Buy Irish To Stop Jobs Going Abroad

Call 11890 Ltd Managing Director Nicola Byrne with UPC's Gavan SmythIrish Directory enquiries company Call 11890 Ltd has signed a multi-million euro contract with UPC Business which means the cable provider will host all of Call 11890 Ltd's services  and provide bandwidth for all its  internet and data traffic.

From now on, all 11890 directory enquiry calls will be routed across the UPC network.

Call 11890 Ltd Managing Director Nicola Byrne called  on the Irish public to help create jobs in Ireland  by buying  Irish and switching  to 11890 for telephone enquiries.Last month an 11890 competitor closed its Irish operation and moved 78 Irish jobs to Asia, she said.

Call 11890 Ltd employs 90 staff across its call centres in Dublin and Galway. It pledged to create 2.5 new jobs for every additional 1,000 calls it received twelve months ago. However a combination of market contraction and reduced consumer expenditure meant 11890 has added  just 10 jobs since then.

On expanding Byrne said, "This remains a very simple idea and a firm commitment by the Company. We have always been a challenger brand in a very competitive market and recognise a lot of similarities with UPC Business as they continue to innovate and offer truly competitive services in the telecommunications market."

As part of the UPC deal, Call 11890 Ltd has also located its new headquarters at UPC 's Eastpoint Business Park facility.

"We are delighted to locate our headquarters at UPC's Business Centre. This state of the art facility provides us with an environment to deliver the best directory enquiries service in the country.

BROUNDUP330.pngyrne said:"The telecommunications solution provided by UPC has enabled us to enhance both our day to day service and crucially provides us the flexibility to grow our service locally here in Ireland.

"We are again asking the Irish public to support an Irish business by calling 11890. By calling 11890 you are using the cheapest directory enquiry operator, buying Irish and helping to create a new Irish job."

UPC Business Business Services Director Gavan Smyth said: "The tailored service we have created for 11890 is a cost-effective alternative, provides high bandwidths to cater for large amounts of traffic across our voice and data networks. Furthermore UPC has built a fibre rich infrastructure in dense city areas where 11890 operates and as we have a national presence, we are ideally positioned to support and meet the increasing needs of 11890 as it grows its business."

The Call 11890 initiative aimed at creating employment in Ireland and nationwide awareness of 11890 as the cheapest directory enquiry service is reliant on the public's active participation by calling 11890. The Company has pledged to create on average 2.5 new jobs for every additional 1,000 calls it receives per day. This recruitment would begin following a period of increased call volumes.
